A Deeper Dive into Yoga

With Rachael Ferri

Yoga is not just for people that are already able to touch their toes. Yoga is for EVERYONE! No matter what your skill level, there is some form of yoga out there for you. My personal favorite is hatha yoga. It is the happy medium between vinyasa and yin yoga. Hatha allows you to hold a pose for a few breaths and feel the benefits of holding a pose like with yin, but also the opportunity to flow more with your breath and feel the connection of body and mind like in vinyasa. Yoga is for all ages and sizes. ANYONE CAN DO YOGA!

Believe it or not, before I started practicing yoga, I was unable to touch my toes. I couldn’t even get close. In gym class, my teachers would always think I was kidding when I couldn’t get anywhere near my toes. Touching my toes became my very first goal in yoga. I started trying to multiple times a day. Whenever I thought about it at home, I would try. Eventually I could grab my toes but it was getting challenging. So I switched to seated. The first time I could get my forehead to my knees, I wanted to cry tears of joy. My whole life I thought I would never be able to call myself flexible. But I did it. I was able to give my knees a hug and kiss. The very part of my body that failed me when I was ten.

Now, I am getting more flexible everyday and feeling a deeper connection between my body, mind, and soul. So when I say anyone can do yoga, I do mean ANYONE! Just go at the right pace for you. We are not all built the exact same. But don’t say you can’t do it. You just need to try.
