Saturday: Third Eye Chakra

One of the most important chakras, the Third Eye Chakra or Ajna, is located just above the center of the eyebrows and the center of your brain. “This center is also known by various manes such as: the third eye; nana chakshu, the eye of wisdom; triveni, the confluence of three rivers; guru chakra and the eye of Shiva. The word ajna means ‘command’. In deeper states of meditation the disciple receives commands and guidance from the guru, and from the divine or higher self, through this chakra.” -S. Saraswati (page 532) It is symbolized by an indigo/ lotus with two petals, with the petals symbolizing the sun and moon or positive and negative forces. At the center of the chakra is an upside-down triangle and the scared bija mantra aum or om. The element connected to this chakra is light. The animal associated to the third eye is the black antelope.

The third eye chakra is your center of intuition, foresight, perception, and connection to ones inner self. If this chakra is out of balance you might be feeling a lack of direction and clarity, or feelings stuck. An overactive third eye might cause you to daydream or indulge in illusions and fantasies. The organs connected to this chakra are your eyes, brain, nervous system, ears, pineal gland, and pituitary gland.

The essential oils that are great for balancing this chakra are cypress, frankincense, juniper, rosemary, sandalwood, and patchouli. Some foods that also helps balance this chakra are blueberries, blackberries, purple cabbage, eggplant, salmon, walnuts, apple cider, flaxseeds, and chia seeds. The crystals or minerals associated with the throat chakra are amethyst, black obsidian, fluorite, labradorite, and clear quartz.
