Wednesday: Solar Plexus Chakra
The Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura, is located on the spine behind the belly button or just below the chest where the rests. Manipura means “city of gems.” “It is called so because, being the fire center, it is lustrous like a jewel and radiant with vitality and energy.” -S. Saraswati (page 530) It’s symbolized by a yellow lotus with ten petals. At the center of the ten-petaled lotus is an upside-down triangle with the bija mantra ram. The element associated with Solar Plexus is fire. The animal connected to this chakra is the ram, being a symbol of energy and assertiveness.
This is the place that holds your sense of independence, self-esteem, dominance, power, and personal responsibility. If your solar plexus chakra is out of balance you might be feeling a low self-esteem, misuse of power, lack of clear direction, lack of purpose, or control issues. Your stomach, digestive system, adrenal gland, liver, and pancreas.
Some essential oils that are great for balancing this chakra are sandalwood, chamomile, rosewood, rosemary, and frankincense. Some food that also help balance this chakra are pumpkin, corn, oats, sweet potatoes, lemons, rice, and golden apples. The stones associated with this chakra are calcite, citrine, topaz, tiger’s eye, pyrite, and amber.
