Tuesday: Sacral Charka

The Sacral Chakra or Svadhisthana, is located just below the belly button or roughly two fingers up your spine from the root chakra. Svadhisthana means “one’s own adobe.” It could also be worded as “self dwelling place” for a more literal translation. It’s symbolized by a orange lotus with six petals. At the center of the six-petaled lotus is the bija mantra vam. Underneath the mantra is a white present moon. The element connected to this chakra is water. In more detailed versions of this chakra, there is a crocodile holding up the moon and vam mantra, “symbolizing the underlying movement of the karmas.” -S Saraswati (page 529)

This is the place that holds your sense of creativity, sexuality, and pleasure. If your sacral chakra is out of balance you might be feeling a lack of creativity, low sexual urges, withheld intimacy, emotional isolation. If your Sacral Chakra is overactive you could be feeling intense cravings or overwhelming desires. Your hips, genitals, and lower back are connected to this chakra as well.

Some essential oils that are great for balancing this chakra are sandalwood, rose, jasmine, yang yang, and clary sage. Some food that also help balance this chakra are oranges, melons, cinnamon, sweet fruits, and coconuts. The stones associated with this chakra are moonstone, citrine, carnelian, coral, amber, and sunstone.
